What you will need

Do not prepare for a hiking trip, unless you have specifically booked one! Simply make sure that you have sensible clothing and shoes that you will be comfortable in for a whole day, both in our vehicle and out on site. A hat will help against sun and rain, and ladies may prefer to wear trousers. Shoes should be strong and waterproof with patterned soles, boots are unnecessary, and high heels are dangerous on the rough ground. You will probably prefer to have something more conventional to wear for breakfast and dinner in your guest-house or hotel and for evenings, though there is no need for anything formal.

If you have specifically booked a walking tour, the last paragraph still applies, but well broken-in and comfortable commando-soled walking shoes or boots are essential, and so is weather-proof clothing. Fuller information and advice will be provided on request.

What you will be expected to know before you start

There is no expectation that you know or have read anything! However, many will wish to read ahead, and on your request a list will be provided of useful books that should be in any good public, academic, or school library or may be readily obtained by them. You will also receive on arrival our own book of notes and papers, derived from your guide's academic teaching material, as mentioned above.
